R.I.P. Penelope
June 2011 - August 23, 2012The female betta who lived in a small tank on my computer desk died unexpectedly. Females don't seem to live as long as males, since laying eggs takes a lot out of them. My little pink-and-purple female betta and resident Kitchen Fishie, Pansy, passed away this afternoon. She had been sick for several weeks, bloated and barely eating. It was a gorgeous day today so my mom and I went shopping. We mainly hit the thrift stores looking for second-hand bargains but we also stopped at the pet store for aquarium supplies, and Wal-Mart for boring essentials. I think Oliver was constipated yesterday, and what I thought was part of his gill was a big poo he was working on. It's the only explanation for why he's completely normal this morning. 0_o I gave him a light lunch so as not to tax his upset digestion, but he ate just fine ( Read more... )

Oliver seems to be okay, more or less. I don't see any sign of what I could have sworn was a gill injury. He's a bit lethargic but he did eat something for supper, which was an improvement over lunchtime. We'll see how he is in the morning.

Pansy did not eat for supper but remains quite active and alert.
